Heavy Duty Towing

Heavy duty and light duty towing services usually consist of what you most likely think of as standard towing service. These include removing wrecked cars, retrieving abandoned vehicles, helping victims of road accidents, towing cars out of private property, and retrieving vehicles from the side of the road. Of course, there are many more specialty towing options available on the market today. Heavy-duty towing is just one of those services.

There are several types of heavy-duty towing equipment on the market today, including tow trucks, boom trucks, tow trailers, out-of-town deliveries, landscaping equipment, motorized loaders, dump trucks, and dumpster trucks. To select the appropriate towing service for your vehicle, you will need to ask questions about which type of equipment will best work for your needs. Asking some questions upfront can save you a lot of time later on.

The first question to ask your heavy duty towing service company or representative is what kind of services do they offer. Do they provide just standard auto removal, or do they provide services for larger vehicles like garbage trucks? What kinds of refuse vehicles do they have available, including black, blue, and green waste trucks? What are their range of vehicle availability and how far they can go with a single job?

Are they licensed and insured? Ask for proof of insurance and license before you even leave with your vehicle. Ask the difference between a standard heavy duty towing truck and a light-duty truck. Heavy-duty towing trucks are designed for hauling larger automobiles and they often have a much longer tow length than standard trucks. Standard trucks are generally designed for short trips where a quick, low speed to get the car out of the garage is most useful.

How many people can be transported in one truck? What safety measures do they have in place for towing? Do they use chain chocks on trucks and other vehicles? What kind of a hitch does the truck have to limit towing a vehicle? Make sure that the companies have all of these types of information available before you even make a decision as to what type of heavy duty towing you need.

When you are comparing dump truck prices, be sure to include the cost of heavy-duty towing as well as the cost of tires, trailers, etc. If you can get a quote that includes all of these things, then you are paying less. If you cannot, then go back to the search engines and try again. You may be surprised by how much you were actually saving!

Can You Plug A Run Flat tire

Q: I recently replaced my front-wheel drive (FR) with a rear-wheel drive (R.F.) What should I do to plug a run dry (R.F.) tire in? A: Unfortunately, if you cannot read air pressure or fill a run dry tire, chances are it is completely deflated and has a large hole in the tread. Run - flats appear as a flat tire which is about half inflated. Unfortunately, most urns are not repairable but your local tire shop can run these.

The first step to plugging a run flat tire is to get a screwdriver to remove the valve stems on both sides of the tire. Place the valve stems apart so that you can look inside the tire and locate a nail or metal object. This urn object should be no taller than your boot length. If the valve stem is difficult to access and you need a larger urn to plug a run dry (R.F.) tire from, you can use two smaller urns instead.

The second step to plugging run flat tires is to lift the valve stem of the tire. You want to do this slowly and with control to avoid damaging the valve stem. Do not attempt to pull the tire off of the rim or you risk denting the rim. Once you have the valve stem removed, turn the valve lever to the "off" position. Remove the key and remove the valve cap nuts.

You can now insert the new urn or other flat object into the valve stem hole and bolt it to the rim. Be very careful when doing this step. Run the screwdriver between the valve cap nuts and the inner edge of the tire to prevent stripping of the nuts. This is an excellent point for you to inspect your tread to determine which type of rubber you have. There are some models of cars that have two treads on each side of the tire meaning there will be a different inner or outer case.

The third step is to use your nail gun to mark the location of the nail hole. On most passenger side tires, the hole is located where the flat part of the tire touches the underside of the sidewall. For drivers who have performance-oriented tires, the location of the nail will differ. It will be found in the center part of the tire near the valve stem. When you know the location of the nail, you can mark the location of the flat tire with a pen by inserting it into the hole and drawing a line around it.

Once you've located both the flat spot and the nail, you can put the whole thing in a bowl and mix some water and baking soda. You will need this to clean the steel wool pads on the flat part of the tire and make them soft again. If the run-flat tires are still in good shape, plug them with a new puncture and use your jack to take them off.
